Our Story

Pietrangelo Cook offers a full range of legal services to large public corporations, closely held enterprises, professional groups, and individuals.

Pietrangelo Cook PLC was founded in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1997 by Anthony Pietrangelo and John Cook. The partners were close friends at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis as well as being outstanding athletes who played on the school’s championship soccer teams. They both attended Rhodes College, graduating cum laude, and obtained their Doctorate of Law Degrees from Vanderbilt University.

After working for leading law firms that catered to large corporate clients in Memphis and in Houston, Texas, the two friends decided to form their own firm. Their goal, then as now, is to serve as trusted advisors to clients wanting first-rate legal counsel in a timely and affordable fashion.

Shortly thereafter, the two partners recruited their highly distinguished fathers to serve as counsel to the firm, bringing with them unsurpassed expertise in all aspects of corporate management and tax solutions.

Anthony Pietrangelo’s father is Michael A. Pietrangelo, former Associate General Counsel of Schering-Plough Corporation and later President of its Personal Care Products Group (overseeing the development and branding of now famous products such as Coppertone® and Dr. Scholl’s® which had sales in excess of $500 million). Michael Pietrangelo also served as the President of Cleo Wrap, Inc. (sales in excess of $100 million) and Western Publishing Group, Inc. (Golden Books and other printed products with sales in excess of $100 million).

John Cook’s father is A.J. Cook – an attorney, CPA, and author. A.J. Cook is the author of “A.J.’s Tax Fables,” a nationally syndicated newspaper column on tax issues, and the book A.J.’s Tax Court. He is a former partner in charge of tax services for the Memphis office of Ernst & Young and has served as Chairman of the Tax, Probate, and Trust Section of the Tennessee Bar Association.
